The charm of Raleigh’s outdoor scene, in addition to its booming job market and low crime rate, have contributed to its low-stress ranking by CNN Money.

In a ranking of 55 major cities, CNN Money ranked Raleigh as the second least stressed-out city in terms of money and the second least stressed-out city in terms of family. For overall least stressed, it selected Raleigh as the third-place city. Salt Lake City came in first.

The city is a job-generating hub, as the unemployment rate has hovered at about 5 percent. The Triangle added 4,400 jobs from March to April this year, according to the most recent data from the N.C. Department of Commerce.

But with an influx of workers comes one drawback: Long work hours.

“Of course, no place is perfect,” the CNN Money article says. “Raleigh’s workers spend more time on the job than those in most other major metro areas.”

Charlotte is ranked 18 spots higher on the “stressed” list. New York City is the most stressed, followed by Detroit.
