Triangle home sales up 3.4% in 2014; prices rising too

The pace of home sales in the Triangle picked up a bit in June with an increase of 4.7 percent in sales compared to the year before and about even with sales in May.

Year to date for the first six months of 2014, Triangle home sales are up 3.4 percent with 14,815 homes sold so far this year, according to Triangle Multiple Listing Service, which released its June report late Thursday.

The price that homebuyers are willing to pay for a house in the Triangle also continues to rise. The average price of a home sold in June was $254,603, a 3.3 percent increase from the same month the year before. The median price was $210,500, a 3.7 percent increase.

Year to date, the average price of a home in the Triangle is $243,503, which is up 4.5 percent over the year prior.

Home sale prospects going into July were also looking strong with the number of pending sales up 6.7 percent to 3,154 units, according to MLS.
